Casa Son Vida 1 and 2
Air conditioning design and ecological sustainability are self-evident requirements of contemporary architecture. image database

Together with the firm IMMOSOLAR, a concept was developed for 2 individual villas of the Cosmopolitan Estates in Son Vida on the island of Mallorca for the maximum usage of solar energy for the buildings’ heating systems, and for the economical and highly efficient operation of heat pumps at minimum cost. The system can be operated remotely using the PC-run IMMOSOLAR control concept.

The facts: 30m2 of collector surface, 2 heat pumps, 1x 29kW, 1x 22kW heat production; geo-solar thermics: 1000m deep drillings.
The IMMOSOLAR system within the houses ensures that the air conditioning is in perfect harmony with people and environment. The low temperature heat surfaces produce a unique comfortable air conditioning. The use of solar and geo-solar thermics takes care of the environment through its’ sustainability. The solar collectors are built in to the building in a manner that makes them practically invisible. IMMOSOLAR spoke with Mr. Michael Struck, coordinator of the project developments on the Cosmopolitan Estates in Son Vida.

The largest solar boat in the world and Germany's largest floating CO2 neutral building in Hamburg

Solar autonomy: Innovative research projects focusing on the use of solar power image database

The “IBA at Work” exhibition at the floating IBA DOCK was opened on 6 May in 2010, the year that marks the middle of the seven year long IBA exhibition based in Hamburg. The world’s largest solar boat, TÛRANOR PlanetSolar, sailed in for the event. Ambitious projects, such as these, prove that solar autonomy is possible where buildings and mobility are concerned. IMMOSOLAR came up with the innovative energy concept for the IBA DOCK, and as a partner in the PlanetSolar project, the company is also involved in the area of solar mobility.

IBA DOCK: The floating climatic house E-mail
Information for the technical press image database
In the centre of the Hamburg metropolis there is a unique location which combines creativity, chances, contrasts and suspense. The Elbe islands of Wilhelmsburg and Veddel and the Harburg inland harbour are the venue and subject matter of the international building exhibition IBA Hamburg. Alongside the main themes of “metro zones” (development of inner city limits) and “kosmopolis” (development of the international community of a city) the IBA has written “City in a Climate Change” on its’ flags, with the goal of a CO2-neutral city development. On this backdrop projects are to be realised here which will enable renewable energies to find a wide area of usage. The importance of this theme should be expressed not only by the symbolic character but also by the transferability of the applied technologies to other projects. The IBA information centre, where building began in 2009, the IBA_Dock, was planned according to this motto; this signifies that air conditioning is possible without conventional energy sources such as oil and gas.

IBA DOCK: The floating climate house E-mail
Information for the public press image database
Why use oil and pollute the environment when solar energy is enough to heat with, even in Northern Germany? Imagine living and working in houses that do not use one drop of oil for heating. Music of the future? You must be joking: the largest floating office building in Germany is emerging in the middle of Hamburg. What is special about it: even in the depths of winter the building does not need gas or oil for heating. And even if it sounds like a contradiction: the solar energy can cool to a pleasant temperature in the summer. Renewable energy is not only used for heating and cooling but also for the warm water system.

Intelligent concrete core activation... E-mail

...using sustainable energy forms image database
The use of sustainable energy forms is creating new possibilities for the use of concrete: solar thermics and geothermics combined with concrete core activation are opening new perspectives for the supplying of energy to buildings. IMMOSOLAR, specialist in solar thermics and geothermics, will present innovative solutions and clever products at the international concrete trade fair in Portugal from October 20th to 24th 2009.
By 2020 at the latest, at least 14 percent of Germany’s warmth must come from sustainable energy forms. The new Heat Law (EEWärmeG) aims to reduce the poisonous greenhouse gas emissions, to protect resources and to ensure a safe and lasting energy supply. For this reason, since January 1st 2009, builders are also required to use sustainable energy in all new buildings. According to the law, all forms of sustainable energy may be used, including solar radiation energy and geothermics. At the same time, the government has increased incentives to 500 million euro per year. The IMMOSOLAR heating systems comply with the legal technical requirements. Concrete core activation plays an important role under these parameters.

Thermo-active building components (TABS) E-mail
TABS keep the house warm – or cool – for longer image database
th_Baukoerper-1-untenConcrete core activation is the new magic word in the building industry: it allows for the absorption of thermic energy which can be released slowly to the rooms. Concrete ceilings with a sandwich profile are put in to counteract the inertness of standard concrete ceilings. Both concrete layers are connected with a metal lattice in which the pipe register is integrated. In this manner a concrete wall becomes a thermo-active building system, a surface heater with an enormous reservoir capacity. This is ideal for usage in combination with low temperature systems such as solar thermic units or heat pumps because it needs an initial temperature which is lower than usual. IMMOSOLAR’s EnergyManagementSystem (EMS) ensures that the TABs are activated correctly in order to provide a comfortable room temperature in the rooms throughout the whole year.
